Cilia Technology

Ten years ago, researchers in the Superfine research group, took an engineering approach to understanding how biological cilia clear pathogens from the lung. They decided to fabricate surfaces with fine actuatable posts that mimic biological cilia and invented a new class of microelectromechanical, MEMS, devices – active surfaces.

Five years later the startup company Redbud Labs was launched to bring this technology to microfluidic devices with biotechnology applications. Redbud Labs is a microfluidic chip manufacturer pioneering a new category of consumable components with MXR, the world’s first fully modular microfluidic mixer.

World-class biotechnology firms use MXR to boost assay performance. Redbud Labs combines this breakthrough platform with deep scientific expertise to develop elegant solutions to the toughest microfluidic challenges.
