Colloquium Series: Michael Irwin (Hunt Perovskite Technologies, LLC)
Wednesday, February 12, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Join us for another event in the 2019-2020 Colloquium Series as APS welcomes Michael Irwin, PhD. to present on his recent research. Michael D. Irwin received a BA in Chemistry (2003) from Texas A&M and PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from Northwestern University (2009). Dr. Irwin currently holds 26 issued US patents and over 30 issued international patents, and has 18 publications, including one with over 1300 citations. Dr. Irwin is currently CTO of Hunt Perovskite Technologies where he focuses on the development of metal halide perovskite materials and their application in solar photovoltaics.
An Industrial Perspective on Metal Halide Perovskite Research
This talk will consist of three parts: 1) overview of photovoltaics (PV) and important commercial considerations, 2) an overview of metal halide perovskite PV, and 3) a snapshot of metal halide perovskite PV research within HPT. In the first part, we shall cover the basics of PV along with commercially relevant parameters such as $/W, bankability, and durability. Second, a brief history of metal halide perovskite will be discussed, followed by fundamentals and the state-of-the-art. Last, I will provide a brief look into HPT’s perovskite research efforts, and current benchmarks.
