9th Annual Oliver Smithies Nobel Laureate Symposium Featuring Dr. William Moerner

On behalf of the School of Medicine and the Postdoctoral Organizing Committee, we are very excited to announce that registration is open for the 9th Annual Oliver Smithies Nobel Laureate Symposium that will be held virtually on Friday, September 11, 2020. This year we are hosting Dr. William Moerner, recipient of the 2014 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

There are two main events that will take place on September 11th:

  • Dr. Moerner will participate in a panel discussion at 1:00pm entitled Being an Effective Expert When Expertise is Refused”The other expert panelists are Drs. Kathleen Gray (UNC Institute for Environment), David Martinez (Department of Epidemiology in Ralph Baric’s lab), and Francesca Tripodi (UNC School of Information and Library Science). Don’t miss this important and topical discussion.
  • Dr. Moerner will present his keynote lecture at 3:30pmThe Story of Light and Single Molecules: From Early FM Spectroscopy in Solids, to Super-Resolution Nanoscopy in Cells and Beyond”

***Up to 20 UNC postdocs are able to sign up for a meet and greet with Dr. William Moerner at 2:45pm on September 11th. Postdocs who would like to participate must register for both the symposium (linked here) and for the meet-and-greet (linked here).
